"New" Bonnet VS Repair!?

Hi all,

Planning a bit of TLC on my Z3 for this year coming and something I found was a bit of flaky rust in the inner layer of the bonnet. Also got some stone chips in the outside.
Is this worth to get repaired if planning to keep the car or better to buy a second hand one in better condition and get it protected straight away + getting it painted of course.

Don't get me wrong if someone would have a Topaz Blue one for sale in excellent condition I will surely buy that one instead of repair mine.

Thanks in advance
Rui

Not got one that colour, it's not unusual to have that sort of rust on the inside.

A respray would be about £4-500 from my experience.

Hi Andy

Thanks for your feedback. I will be exporting this car in the next year or so and I will then have a full respray at a way better price than here but I am still wonder if its worth to just get this repaired for now so it doesn't eat through. If i buy a different colour one is the price of that plus pain again way too expensive. Last chance may be to find a better condition one in the same colour.

Thanks mate.

@Rui Almeida get in contact with @Tim beard he resprayed my bonnet and top quality work
Thanks @BMBabe I have go to friends with hight quality work at fair price to me but it is still a lot of money. How much did he ask for that bonnet to be done? I have got someone selling a silver one in pristine condition so just need to know if it's worth the money (all together).

Thanks you

I am sure @Tim beard will beat the price you have been quoted
I can't tell you a price as I have other bits of paint done at the same time
I am so happy with the work I had done

If that is the extent of the under bonnet rust, rub it down, apply rust treatment and repaint with a brush. Less than £50 materials and a few hours work. You can have it done perfectly when car resprayed later.:)

Mine had exactly that, and as mentioned, I scraped it all out, applied some antirust treatment and that's me sorted until a respray. I think that rust comes from slightly misaligned/broken wheel arches..

Hi there
I will tell you what mine is all down to someone that thought trimming the wheel arches would be a great ideia and forgot about all the water that would splash to the engine bay. Was fuming when i found out. I got my car lowered on 17" wheels and rather a bit of rubbing that water all over the place. Unfortunately to clean up my engine buy and treat all the areas in need is more of a engine out job and restore that just rubber out and treat but surely will do that on the bonnet.

Thanks
Rui
