I would also do the plugs, diff and gerabox oil, check the cooling system, most the rads are original and could well be on their way out as mine was, also be worth doing the serpentine belt, pulleys and water pump, that should keep you busy for now, then we'll talk about suspension and running gear :D
wow! he thought he got a good deal , until you chimed in!=))=))=))

Hi from Mansfield. As said give it a bloody good service including diff and gearbox oils and get set to replacing the cooling system items, pulleys, belts etc for your own peace of mind. Other than that enjoy your zed.

Hi Guys. Just bought my first Z3. It's a 2.8
R reg 97000 miles
Thought I would say hello before I start bombarding you with a load of daft questions.
Car has BMW history up until 3 years ago then nothing. Car has done about 2000 miles in 4 years ish! Owner kept it in a garage and takes it out very rairly. I drove it 150 mile home with no problems.
So first thing. Oil on stick looks good. Going to change it and oil filter. What do you guy's thing of an engine flush first? What oil is best?
Thanx
Hi & Welcome :welcome: No such thing as a daft question. Almost guarantee someone on here will be able to offer some advice / help :)

Personally I always use an engine flush at every change, they may be snake oil but I like them. My preference in engine oil is Fuchs Titan (Opie Oils, we get a forum discount code ZROAD) Regular oil changes are your best friend, oil is cheaper than engines

Hi Andrew, and :welcome: from another 2.8 owner.

Yes, oil and new (BMW) oil and air filters. Also gearbox and diff oil change. Remember to remove the filler plugs first before removing drain plugs on the gearbox and diff. Also a tip from an old guy way back in my youth, when you remove drain plugs, place them on the caps of the new oil containers. It's easy to get distracted mid process and start filling up with no drain plugs refitted. Note different transmission oils for different models of the Z3. Check to see if yours has a limited slip diff.
Change coolant using genuine Blue Green antifreeze corrosion inhibitor 50/50 with de-ionised water. This should be done every 18 months max.
Also check suspension bushes shocks and springs, and anything rubber on the car for ageing.
Also check the diff spot welds in the boot.

Enjoy the lovely grunt of the 2.8 motor.

:drinks:

Bonzo.

Andrew welcome, by the sounds of it you are about three weeks behind me. Flush oil and filter done (castrol ), have also done air filter, plugs and diff oil castrol lsd. Gearbox oil and fuel filter are certainly on my list. Oh and would check underneath your carpets to see if they are wet....... mine were!!!

I am in Finchfield by Bantock Park. I work in Bilston and Failings Park so I use Deans Road a lot. Small world!
