Took these pictures a couple of weeks ago on way home on the single track road from Barr back to mine
The buzzard flew across the valley ( saw it on my way round the previous corner) then landed on the tree right in front of us.
Never fails to impress me seeing these magnificent birds up close in the wild .

This was in my garden for about 10 minutes back in sept. Lucky for it, the cat was indoors asleep

We have a number of Kites that circle over my house and main road just before lunch nearly every day. First noticed them 23yrs ago then just a pair, being in the Chilten Hills gives us daily sightings of these fantastic birds. They don’t stay long just checking out the main road for road kill then they go off to the nearby parks where we can watch them till mid afternoon. Don’t know if they nest local or not. Best spectacle is when the local ravens chase after them.

I watched 3 long necked Cormorants leave the lake late this afternoon. Neil has acquired a licence to shoot an located number as they are very detrimental to inland fishery owners. I heard 4 shots yesterday so I assume they weren't successful.

All he needs is a scarecrow gun sounder, that would save killing a bird that’s only acting naturally Tony.
Glad the Welsh farmers don’t shoot at us when we get too close to the sheep, cos it could be said we’re only acting naturally it’s our meat diet. =))=))=))

They are doing what comes naturally to an Ocean bird Roy, these things only started to come inland when they couldn't live from the coastal areas around our sure because the Europeans had removed all the fish. They don't eat all that they kill and maim more fish than they catch and eat, also these fish are someone's livelihood which Neil has spent several thousands of pounds stocking his lake, so in my view he has every right to kill something destroying his stock as much as a farmer has the right to shoot dogs worrying sheep? Bird scarer guns become redundant as the birds soon get to know where and what they are and they become ineffective and just end up being a bloody nuisance to the people who live close by.

Tony if he's got these (super trawler) birds decimating his stock then fair enugh. Your in a good position to judge no doubt, my comment wasn't as serious as you've obviously taken it, was a lead into an anicdote comparing the human breed to these devastating birds, pleaseI read it again to see if maybe you misinterpreted what I actually tried to convey, I will have to be more carefull what I write and how I word it. No offence was meant to your friend.

Roy,;)

PS; and your still a tw@. =))

No offence taken Roy, proper mates can say stuff to each other without taking the hump mate.

I was however making a point that many would not even consider, in that 10 years ago there was no lake there and when it did fill there were no fish in it, until Neil spent upwards of £20,000 stocking it to make a fishery where he could earn part of his living. There were no Cormorants either until about 4 years ago when the they discovered easier pickings than on the River Trent only about 1/2 a mile away as the Crow (Cormorant) flies.
