I’m using an M44 as a swap to my ‘57 MGA. I’m using the MGA steering rack so I’m deleting the actual Power Steering Pump from the engine. Can anyone guide me as to what I do with the belt for the Fan, Water pump, and Alternator. I guess I can delete the fan and go electric if I have to. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

If they all run off the same belt what you need to do is run a piece of string round the pulleys which will be left and measure the length of the string needed to just reach round all the pulleys. You can then ask motor factors for a belt of that length allowing for the deflection of the sprung tensioner.

They don’t make them, but, such as Andrew Page or ECP sell poly-vee belts and they quote the length and width (usually = the number of ribs) on the packaging. So for arguments sake if you needed a 5 rib belt with a length of 350mm they should be able to sort you out. Even on old belts you can sometimes find, clean and read the details.

ps. Pictures of A/C drive belt for a 2.8 Z3.

5PK denotes the belt is a 5 rib belt.

The 907 tells you this belt is 907mm long. Hope this helps.

Where are you located John? Is there a branch of Andrew Page or Euro Car Parts nearby. You will need to measure around the pulleys with a piece of none stretchy string to get the length. You can count the number of ribs.

Thanks again for taking your time to help me. It’s going to be a challenge to fit this engine into my British Roadster, but I’m looking forward to trying.

@John Shepherd .

Hi John you should maybe start a progress thread on your build ( as I'm sure a few on here ( me included) would be interested in your build ) as it would then keep all your questions and answers etc all in the one place.

I am quite interested in how your making this all work for instance are you using a BMW gearbox or is the M44 being mated to original box ( if so details on how achieving)

Also how are you going to run the M44 will it be fitted with its fuel injection or are you going down another path .

Like @t-tony I have a good number of years behind me as a vehicle technician and mot tester in the UK and I also still have an M44 zed 3 ( unlike that Tony one who has deserted to a zed 4 :whistle::ymdevil:)
So like Tony Happy to offer any online support if I can .

Thanks Tony, I can start a thread as I dive in. This will be my second swap. My first was putting a 1.6 Miata into a Triumph Spitfire. D92ADC5E-B3F1-40F7-A1CD-96E4B1D2B29E.jpeg

Oh man was it! I ask myself why I sold it... I’m in California and not once did I drive it without someone saying, “ Nice Car!” I enjoy the build process and I wanted to kick it up a notch...
