30 years ago, in the middle of Bucharest, a huge space was left "alone "; due to some real estate interest and political fights , the field became wilder and wilder and few green org noticed that beside vegetation the number of wild birds and animal starts to increase and they started a long process claiming that this area should be declared a natural parc! I never expected they will succeed! but they did!
Today the government declared this area , in surface of 750 000 sqm (186 ha), with hundreds of species of vegetation, fish and animals an urban parc and because the water sources created a natural Delta, the name is " Delta Vacaresti". It's unique in Europe, being in the middle of a city with 2- 3 million inhabitants.
Some neighbours of the parc really can watch wild life from their balcony!
It's one of the best news in the last 27 years and is done by ...the nature!
I hope to find a link with some photos too!

Looks great @Zeti :p
Very interesting ;)

I like a good news story  we have Salisbury Plain over here, the Military have used it as a training ground for many years and once a year some brave (mad) nature types sign their lives away to go in and assess the wildlife as it's rampant as it's untouched by humans (less the odd tank shell).

Long may it continue Dan.

Tony.

There's a few front gardens like that on most Dudley council estates. It's not unusual to see horses grazing, sometimes they even put their heads through the front window to take a munch at the hedge

Any natural area will be an education for those in the city who will get a chance to experience a part of life many never get to see! It looks wonderful Dan. Enjoy. JIM

I agree with that. Few years ago I was shocked to see children (from an educated family) not seeing difference between a goose and a duck and believing that cows can be purple...like in the chocolate bar pack!

Although I found that funny Dan it's also terrible and sad that those kids hadn't had a chance to enjoy the difference between city and wild life. Hopefully now they will get that chance. JIM
