Has your steering wheel been off the car recently? If so, the slip ring/clock spring could have been damaged/incorrectly refitted. This happen to me following installation of cruise control including a steering column switch (by a garage). I bought and fitted a new spring that fixed the problem. Not heard of them failing otherwise, but you never know.

And my steering feels heavy and squeaks at the steering wheel, no leaks, am thinking the pas pump has gone, and maybe the slip ring/clock spring. Anyone got any experience of this? Cheers
