My z isn't M but it has //M steering wheel? Is that normal?

I bought my z3 second hand around 15 years ago. It's not an M but there's a little M badge on the steering wheel. Do all z3's have that little badge?
There's a recess in the wheel for the badge so it's not just a sticker. What badge should be there?

Asking because I'm eager to make the car as close to OEM as possible.

Perfectly normal M sport steering wheel, an optional extra which became standard fitment on later cars.

There is 2 different version of the M sport wheel I have them factory fitted to both my zeds.
To look at them they look the same but there are differences.
The pre face-lift version has a single stage airbag and the face-lift version has a multi stage airbag ( the 2 are not interchangeable) and as such the metal bits underneath the m wheel are different

It’s just a sales gimmick by BMW to increase sales, as some buyers think they are getting an M car without the price.
