Not sure if you've ever done much research why these company's sell the tyres so much cheaper. You've spotted why, over in Europe they have stricter laws about tyre shelf life which we don't have here. This is why those main websites can sell them cheaper and ship them into the UK.

I've always had 'fresh' tyres from the online places like Mytyres and Camskill - not sure I've used black circles.
I think Mytyres stated date of manufacture or something along the lines of saying they would be a certain maximum age.

I'm surprised they've even had tyres in stock for a Mini that long unless it is a very uncommon size?

Have purchased tyres from Europe like I know @Lee has in the past. The prices were a lot cheaper, but now these companies are selling to the UK cheap companies so the prices direct to us have gone up. Pity as it used to be a great saving.

I think these were bought at a dealer locally hence they old stock - I can't see the online places holding stock for too long, warehouse logistics costs are high relative to a tyre value so they will discount them out rather than pay logistics (I know mytyres don't even have all the tyres in stock as I have to wait a while for some until they got stock).

Says the man whose only word for tyres is "Smokin!" :D

Just scanned the uk and Euro regs on tyres and cannot see anything relating to the age of the tyre when first sold. Might be buried elsewhere though as that was the point of sale info regs.

Interesting point and one I'd never considered.
Assumed that they're sufficiently fast moving that it's not a problem.
For anyone looking there's a four digit code. The first two are the week and the second two the year. What do you have on your tyres and how close is that to the date you bought them?

For a bit of fun @t-tony will assess all the tyres in the store for us =))

Obviously worth checking the tyre dates when buying.
Certainly if your mileage isn't going to be great.

The tyres could easily be 'old' before you've had any wear from (except for @Lee of course - his go so fast that they age more slowly due to quantum effects).

I'm too scared they might get old and crack before I've had a chance to use them =))

How does this fit in with the proposed MoT reg mooted a while back that a car with tyres five years or older will fail on age grounds?
