Love the term "Bog standard", did you know that it derives from mechano, they did a box standard and a box delux, the term dogs b*******s also came from this, dox belux
Yeah, "box standard" is the correct saying and another popular corruption of a "saying" is "damp squid" instead of "damp squib". I thought "Dogs Bo**ocks" was a crude version of "Cats Whiskers", but I like your explanation better =))

PS ….. I was bought up in the Black Country and can still fluently communicate in Black Country dialect so my grasp of the English Language can be best described as a bit dodgy =))

My folks moved South from Lancashire when I was one year old. The kids at school took the Michael when I said BuZZZZZZZ. Still, taught me to speak proper like.;)

I've bought my replacement Zed

It's a 1998 2.8 Roadster, one of the last M52 engine versions as it was built in August 98.
It has only done 48000 miles, has a hardtop and although it has been stood for 3 years the engine runs well and it just needs a bit of TLC.

I can't decide whether to upgrade it as I did with my last one or, because of the low mileage, keep it standard - suggestions welcome.

The fun has started
Best of luck with it....................Frankie

The C-in-C's family are Yam Yam's mate, sort of. Sedgley, Dudley, Bloxwitch etc. :D
So chances are that they're Wolves supporters then? My wife's from Wolverhampton so she's a proper Yam Yam, I'm from opposite direction, place called Pensnett, just outside Dudley, Baggies territory

I brought mine stock and i wasn't sure if i should do anything as it was a striaght car but i like a car to be mine and reflect me so once the slippery slope starts it just never ends !!
As mentioned just keep all the parts and if they should be a future owner that wants stock its possible.
Mine was never the low mileage example that you have in my ownership but i think it depends on what you want, do what makes you happy at a bargain price would you ever lose ??

I want to make it mine but because of the mileage I also want to keep it standard; I might get this up to scratch then sell it on, hopefully at a good profit ;) and then get something I don't mind making my own

Just get stuck in pal, it will more then likely be beyond most of our life spans before these Zs are worth a fortune

I have still got my Z3 which i am very attached too. i paid £2k for it 5 years ago i have spent another £2k on it
I now have a Z4 which i paid £2.9k 12 months ago which i have spent another £1.5k on. Yes it would be nice if the values were going up but realistically speaking these two vehicles have introduced me to a whole new group of people i can now call my friends which is priceless.
it has also shown me how much i love our country side and how much pleasure can be had by just being part of it.
Anyone thinking of buying a zed or to be fair any convertible just do it

Of course! Members on this forum are great at spending other members money. It is the only way we can get good info on the bits we would like to buy ourselves before committing ourselves.

So where does the “Bee’s knees” saying come from.

Well said that man! I enjoy this community and the occasional drive out that we go on. My Z has even made us part of an Italian group with members that I now class as friends.

So where does the “Bee’s knees” saying come from.
The phrase was first recorded in the late 18th century, when it was used to mean 'something very small and insignificant'. Its current meaning dates from the 1920s, at which time a whole collection of American slang expressions were coined with the meaning 'an outstandingperson or thing'. Examples included the flea's eyebrows, the canary's tusks, and one that still survives - the cat's whiskers. The switch in meaning for the bee's knees probably emergedbecause it was so similar in structure and pattern to these other phrases
