After 24 wonderfully happy years with my Z3 1.9 facelift it is now time to say good bye. I am heart broken but the rust has taken its toll and parts are more difficult to find. I had 2 rear arms fashioned last year but now the front needs doing and it will cost a fortune, so I am looking to find someone who will be able to come and look at him and give me a fair price. The soft top was replaced a few years ago and is in very good condition. The interior is in excellent condition, beige leather which had been regularly cleaned and protected. Heated seats but the seat belt clips on them are broken, I have a 6 cd player, radio cassette, all the original tools are in the tool kit located in the boot, spare wheel and a beige rooftop cover. All the paperwork, log book and driver manuals, even the first aid kit although the red bag has marked with age. I also have 4 wheels with tyres which I kept when I changed the wheels on my boy, and two rear panels which I brought to replace the current ones but will sell for £120 which is what I paid for them.
Who ever thought selling a beloved car was going to be so sad!

Quite a defeatist post. If you look through the Zedshed builds you can see it’s straight forward to do a front end overhaul.

What parts exactly need replacing?

The wishbones, shocks, anti roll bar links, brake discs, tie rods, engine mounts, wheel bearings and replacement oem rubber bushings are all relatively cheap for the 1.9 and readily available. The whole lot will mount to a bit but far cheaper than a replacement zed. The hubs will clean up and easy to repaint once all apart.

Why not try looking on autodoc to see how much it would cost you before throwing in the towel.

It’s full of rust , give the guy a break!
Not everyone enjoys working on their cars ( especially in the current cold snap), has the welding skills/ equipment or can afford to spend to have professional repairs carried out that will probably cost more than the cars worth!

Just adding an alternative to the IP selling something that he is obviously attached to, if the chassis is ok the rest are just components. Gladly give him a hand if he’s within a reasonable distance from me.

Where are you located? The biggest part of the cost of restoration is labour and there could be a way to minimise even that.

Tony.

Is this your main car or second car Rusty? If it is your second car, parts can be bought over time. Some photos of what you need doing or more details to what needs doing would help to assist you further.
