Whilst flicking through the site I found this picture and was wondering what the pipe, in a square shape, in front of the radiator fan is? Mine is very corroded and looks like it will fall apart at any minute. What would the consequences be?

Hi Nolan, don't worry about asking questions, we love em on here. Collectively members have come across/dealt with most problems on a Zed so ask away. In this case I think you are referring to the power steering cooling pipe, mine is also a bit corroded at the bottom. If it fails, you'd lose your power steering fluid and the steering would become very VERY heavy.:nailbiting:

Someone else may be able to shed more light soon...;)

Thanks Mint, your bang on. After googling this I have found numerous pictures of it and even a part number, BMW Steering Cooling Line 32411093638, with most people asking approx. £100 just for the part! :nailbiting:

Agree with Zedonist a whilst you have the sandpaper and hammerite out check the pipes to and from the steering rack, pump and cooler as these are likely to be corroded as well and even more expensive to replace.

I also used some chemical rust remover to try and stop the rust reappearing under the newly painted power steering pipe.
