Just for a laugh, I thought I would pose this question.

What do people think the ratio of mx5 : z3 that you see out on the roads?

My guess is around 6:1, too high? too low?

If you look at howmanyleft.co.uk as of 2024 Q2 there were approx 41k MX5s licenced or SORN, but only approx 12.4k Z3s, indicating a ratio of about 10:3 (MX5:Z3). But obviously the MX5 has had a much longer production run.

if you compare year-to-year, they're actually pretty even, which I was not expecting at all! Considering all the MX5s I see, there must be an island in Scotland or somewhere cut off from the mainland full of Z3s 🤣

(best side-by-side comparison I could muster on my phone 🤣)

Where I live in Texas, there are 2 Z3s, mine and a very nice lady who only drives hers about half a dozen times a year. I have only seen one Miata, but there's only 6500 people in this town. On the other hand, there are about 10,000 pickup trucks. 😂 Well, it IS Texas, so...

This is interesting. I feel like there are just as many Z3’s about as there are MX-5’s of the same era. So I reckon I see more Z3’s round where I am than I do MK2 MX-5’s. Overall there are far more MX-5’s but I think most of them are MK3’s or newer.

Rarely see any Z3s around here but see MX5s all the time even looking at cars of the same era.

It’s honestly pretty close over here in the Z3 homeland. Of course with the mx5 being a thing across some 30 model years, there are more, but if we just talk NA/NB, I probably see about the same number on the road.

there are also 3 coupes in my town

Obviously, some sort of subliminal recognition going on here ....

Looking forward to our Texas trip in December

I wouldn't take any of tgat as gospel over the years ' how many left ' does the rounds on here the information is generally considered to be less that accurate.

Stephen.
