Mrs Gookah's Z4 (Sold)

Thought I had best start a journal on what I have done to the other half's Z4 so here goes:

We traveled all the way to Cardiff to look at this one (after a nearby one which was 'immaculate' turned out to be awful)

It is a 3.0se with MSport seats and MSport suspension (according to spec sheet..... though I believe someone has fitted the wrong rear springs since)
The leather is heated too which was a main requirement
It has the Xenons, multifunction wheel and factory wind deflector.
85K on the clock with full service history but only 1 months MOT,
but what could possibly go wrong.......!

Any way after a nice drive home it was time for a proper look around to show up all the faults and some missed on the first visit
One xenon headlight wouldn't raise or lower on the auto test on start up. (Mot fail for that fault alone)
Rear discs and pads were shot,
wheels were scabby though tyres are almost new.
a small dent on rear quarter wing corresponding with a poor smart repair
a rip in the windeflector.
and a grubby condition all round


So a clean up was in order with the engine bay first, and a re-gas of the aircon

Also came to light was a split hose on the inlet.
New hose ordered and fitted later, along with removal of some foam from the sound generator so as to get more induction noise in the cabin

Then onto the seats:
not too bad just a coat of scuffmaster to cover all the scratches:

The wind deflector was not too good:

so with some fly screen mesh I separated the frame and refurbished it

So next were the brakes

Calipers cleaned up ready for paint:

and a new coat all round:

along with new discs and pads on the back

The scabby wheels are put in storage awaiting a refurb:

which means my summer wheels have been pinched instead!

One good clean (especially to get the green off the roof) and all is coming together nicely

so it was on to the bit I was concerned about, one xenon light not moving up and down,.


So I took the access panel off from under the front wing to investigate motor problems and this is what I found.......!

A seriously expensive problem.......?

At some stage someone had changed a bulb. and to the left of the headlight wiring plug is the issue they caused..

Yes.... they had forgotten to plug the cable back in. It was still dangling below the opening.
30 seconds later,one fully working headlight levelling system..

Wahey!

I had some issues with the roof motor so it was time to do a major move:

After removing it from its original loaction I was able to strip it, clean and lubricate and relocate in the boot

I have done it once before on a previous Z4 that I owned by taking the roof off, but believe me this is much quicker, and solves the problem for good this way:

Lastly I decided to take a punt on a steering wheel upgrade:

This was the original wheel with a few scratches and marks on the shadow chrome:

It was also quite thin feeling, in comparison the the Royals wheel I had recovered in my Z3,

So I got me a kit, off tinternet

and after 2-3 hours of positioning, and sewing with M- coloured threads (everything is in the kit)

then a satin spray job to the buttons, it now looks like this:

Ok its artificial leather but it sure looks and feels real, and was worth it for a punt
They do a real leather one for £38 which I will fit next, if and when this one wears out.

magifoam yellow.. a bit expensive but by far the best I have used..
