After a 3 month wait he managed to find time to do my coupe’s vanos .I have the receipt from the previous garage that attempted to do the job and obviously failed. You can get different kits to do this but they never last,do it once and do it right. Drove it today and it’s sweet.

The blokes a genius with these enignes.
Yes unfortunately he recons that some residue from the grit blasting the rocker cover did for the roadster, it’s going to be off the road a bit longer I’m afraid 😟

£150 if you have the balls to DIY.

It cost me about £700 to learn how to do it for £150 =)) .

I weren't far off that once I bought the tooling. Scariest job I did on my M.

The worst part is the first start-up. It runs like a bag of spanners for about 20 seconds before all the oil galleries are pressurised . My heart was in my mouth until it was running sweet as a nut. I'd never do the job on someone elses's car. Mr Vanos is a braver man than me (or he has good insurance). Very expensive it it all goes wrong.

Here's the scary bit...

Mr Vanos messed me around by cancelling and rearranging my appointment on more than one occasion, so ended up doing the job myself. M54 fix is not too bad with kit costing around £165.

I bought the full kit from X8R and did it myself and did the oil pump gasket at the same time. I found a way to do it so you did not have to remove the fan either. Took me about 5 hrs to do the lot I think. It is one of the simple jobs to do IF you have the right equipment and the X8R instructions are pretty comprehensive.
