Moving the roof switch

Folks,
Is anyone aware of a 'How to' guide that explains how to move the switch that operates the roof to the area where the air con and DSC switches are?
The likelihood of switching the DSC off, is for me, remote, so it may as well be in the location for the hood switch and relocate the DSC switch to behind the seats.

This strikes me as a sensible relocation, but I don't want to throw up a error code if I disconnect the DSC switch

Thanks in advance
P

You will not get a code by disconnecting the DSC switch.

Your mod just requires extending the wires for both switches and running them under the center console.

Hi Phil, to move the roof switch forward was on my "to do" list but I sold my Z3 before getting it done. I can't remember how many wires are in the plug on the switch, but, say there are five (all different colours) all you need to do is cut the plug off the loom say 3" tail left on the wires (ONE wire at a time and ignition off) then solder join and shrink tube a length of cable to reach from the back of the console to the front. As long as you connect the correct wires from the loom to the switch it doesn't matter if they're all the same colour or not. Once you have all the wires extended and tested you can wrap them with insulating tape. Another method is to use a length of 7-core trailer socket cable and simply use as many cables as needed then there's less wrapping at the end of the job.

Thanks - I'm assuming you needed to remove the centre console, or did you find another way of getting to the cables?

On mine I took out a couple of screws at the back of the console and a couple more at the front and lifted it a bit. That gave me enough room to get in there and fiddle about, bit awkward and I'd probably take out the seats if I was to do it again just for a bit more convenience. If you go that way don't turn on the ignition with the seats out, unless you've got a suitable code re-setting tool.
Moving the switch is one of those little jobs that makes a big difference.

If your roof switch is at the back of the centre console the wires will be long enough to move the switch to the front without modification, as I have done this myself. The only issue is that the wires are wrapped in with a loom of wires which run under the centre console. So you need to remove the centre console, and start removing the sticky fabric wrapping on the wire loom.

You will have an issue of moving the DSC switch to the rear as there will definitely NOT be enough cable length to reach. You will need to extend the wires.

Stands to reason one of them would need the wiring extended mate:thumbsup:
