My zed has been off the road for about 2 years now. I finally finished the restoration work on my sills but need to get it MOTd.

Ideally I want to do this without putting the replacement sill covers on as these still need to be painted.

Can I get the zed MOTd without the sill cover?

Sorry Faheem, only just read this mate. Yes you could take it for a test without sill covers fitted, but expect an advisory on your certificate. Also expect a less than experienced tester to fail it.

Tony.

ps. If you know the testing station well it might be wise raise the question with them before you take it. Really there is no reason to advise that the sill covers are missing because you already know that they are.

Hi Faheem I'm with Tony personally I would issue advise ( as long as no sharp edges) but yes a word with the tester.
Obviously the zed has no mot so I would take a few decent photos from various angles to show him when you pop in to ask about it see what they say .

Why would you issue an advisory for having no sill covers? They’re not structural and there are no sharp edges exposed. The covers are purely cosmetic. Granted it looks a little different but when did personal preference on aesthetic matters become part of the MOT?

In the main a Tester will issue an advisory as a record that he/she noted that particular defect while carrying out the test. Also Employers like them to do this in case of any issues arising from it. The Tester isn't telling the presenter of the vehicle something they already know, they're telling VOSA that they were alert to the potential issue at the time of test. It seems very simple until you're the person in the firing line.
