MOT holiday

I haven't stopped all week mot diary jammed solid for days people perfectly happy to leave home to get in for an mot see will watch with interest as new rules take force.

Hi Steve, I learned last Friday when I took mine in for test that the young man who took my job has qualified as a tester so they're back up to 3 now. I hope the pressure of this situation isn't too much for a newbie. Although the main pressure time will come when the Govt. return to " normal" testing I think.

These new rules may calm down the current panic testing Tony with a bit of luck .
As got to say not overjoyed about having to be in and handle multiple items inside a relatively high number of cars at the moment doesn't inspire confidence in my personal safety :nailbiting::nailbiting:

Tony reckon that like you say later in the year going to lead to a glut of mot's needing done in a relatively short period of time.

Please be careful mate.

Tony.

Had to have mine done this morning as it's due on the 29th. It's passed with 2 advisories. A slight oil leak and 2 new tyres, all 4 tyres are being changed today though.

Nice one Phil. Let’s hope the world’s a better place next year!

Here's an update on this mot extension.

I have found out this morning the extension will be implemented in a rolling fashion week by week.
So for example if your mot due on 3rd April it will be extended to 3rd October but if your
Mot is due on say 3rd May the extension will not be granted until nearly at that time.
It is so if things improve they have only granted the extension to cars that immediately require it.
They have also said if you have more than 1 vehicle at home and mot lapses on 1 you should use the other one in the meantime.

No paperwork to be issued unless customer has a desperate need for it.
Closed doors testing also approved so no viewing area and no customer waiting in reception.
Try to use cards and not cash for payment
As of April 1st contactless is increasing from £30 to £45

That’s good information Steve. Thank you.

MoT tests: six-month exemption granted
The Department for Transport (DfT) has confirmed new legislation granting a six-month MoT test extension for all cars requiring a test from 30 March 2020 onwards. All cars due an MoT before this date will still need to be tested.

According to Transport Secretary Grant Shapps, irrespective of any MoT extension, your car must be maintained in roadworthy condition: “Given the circumstances, I'm granting an MoT temporary exemption so that if your MoT is due from 30 March 2020 you will automatically receive a six-month extension. However, you must still keep your car in a roadworthy condition and garages will remain open if you need repairs.”

Additionally, if you have been forced to self-isolate due to COVID-19 and are unable to drive your car to an MoT test centre, the DfT is working with police and insurance companies to ensure people who are in isolation and unable to get their car tested "aren’t unfairly penalised for things out of their control."

If you can get a car ready for test before March 30th. you should be able to get it done, whether you could then sell it is debatable.

Tony.

I renewed my car’s AA roadside recovery etc last week and the blurb read back to me clearly stated the cover was only applicable to my car WITH a valid MOT.

I’m assuming that cars which fall into this six months period will not have roadside recovery etc if they have such policies.

Should not make a difference the extension is the same as having a certificate.

Gaz's certificate says "MOT valid until September," therefore it's a valid MOT. For once something that does what it says on the tin

Dawn the 6 month extension once applied to any vehicle basically pushes the expiry date forward 6 month like @GazHyde post above his mot will now be due on the 30th September and not 30th March.
the only thing he has to do ( technically speaking applies to everyone) is make sure his car is kept in a legal and roadworthy condition.

A further update on the criteria.

At the moment.

The mot extension will not be added to a vehicle until either the day before or the day it is due ( this may change) if it changes I will update on here.

Stephen.

Yes, can confirm it works. The 3.0 is due tomorrow (1st April) but has now been extended to 1st Oct.
