MOT Fail

Maybe the time has come if it’s an expensive task. Spending 1/3rd of its value for repairs is just not right, unless everything else on it is in top condition.
Had many sentimental rollercoasters with some of my previous cars, ended up throwing away thousands of euros to sort an imported Sierra Cosworth and finally gave up realising that only a rotisserie job would save it.
luckily selling for parts and it being a rare car, left behind a little profit.

Cost to scrap v cost to sort and sell with MOT is prob similar

Front ball joints is nothing. Easily replaced. Instead of appealing the test I'd get some brownie points with him and get a quote to do the ball joints. Probably cheaper than you think.

But first. Get those sill covers off then sit back and have a think. If the structural sills are good then take the car back to the MOT guy and show him. See what he thinks.

They're not. Classed as "bodywork" and not structural.

Tony.

It's in my garage, @colb was kind enough to be comming down next Friday to take sills off, but my work has changed that :(So end of the month now hopefully. I'm more head than heart atm and its SORN so no rush. Except today would have been a great Zed day! Thanks for asking @AntStark

Itching to get the covers off to see the state of the inners really hoping they haven't gone too far and reparable with some good welding.

You are more excited than me about that @colb I really appreciate your support, and hope we can get it back on the road

On my 2.0 when I bought it, one of the sill covers had a welded patch. When I removed the covers prior to the rebody- the main sills had surface rust only. Wire brush, Bilthamber GEOX, zinc primer, satin black rattle can then Waxoyl.

My Z3 having passed its MOT yesterday led me to this thread from last year. Can I thank everyone for your support as I would easily have walked away but after listening to you all I decided to give it a crack. I now have two Zeds and the Z3 I have put my son on the insurance and will insure my grandson for some days also, so its a family car. My first drive in it was a bit of an eyeopener as I was used to the Z4, however once I got used to it I was in love again.
Reading the thread once again showed how amazing @t-tony was in supporting and giving excellent advice, am still shocked but know he will be looking on and smiling. Thank you 🙏
