Hi everyone. MOT due soon and I was wondering if the ASC should be on or off for the brake test. I read somewhere, on here, .net or elsewhere something about it. I thought I must remember that but I`ve got to the age where if you don`t write it down it`s gone and it has! Thanks

I thought we had this discussion on here, but not according to the search facility!

Found this discussion on another BMW forum http://www.bmwland.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=48171

Seems to say that an ASC lamp should be OK, but if the ABS isn't working then it should be a failure.

That said, most MOT centres seem to interpret the rules differently, so it could be pot luck any way!

Thanks, I`ll have a read of that. My concern was that if the ASC was on, would the way they brake each wheel independently be detrimental to the ASC workings.

the ASC can be turned off so its not an MOT failure, it is worth looking into why the light is on though. Perhaps a faulty ABS sensor which would mean an advisory at the minimum.

Sorry I think I`m confusing people here. My ASC is working fine, I thought I read somewhere that there was a way MOT inspections on braking systems should be done which involved switching the ASC off to prevent things happening to it when the brake test was done. I`ve probably got it mixed up in my mind and it has nothing to do with it.

ASC is the traction controll, it has no effect on the braking at all. Or atleast it shouldnt. The brake test is only done on the front wheels which arnt driven on the Z3 so it doesnt matter if its on or off.
