Help... hi all.. any recommendations for a mobile machanic in the Bristol area.. I have discovered a nice pool of water under the front right hand side of the engine dripping from the underside tray.. no visible signs of a leak when looking down into engine bay ... suggestions / theory's. . If your washer bottle is at the front like mine then it could be that, good check is dip your finger in it and taste it if its sweet its coolant if its not its washer bottle, a bit yuk but a good test.

Thanks Ken.. as a recent new owner of a Z3 and a newbie on the forums I can't believe how incredibly friendly and welcoming you all are... I just wish I was mechanically minded so I could do repairs etc myself

Hi all . I've carried out a taste test :meh: on my leak and it's definitely got a sort of funny sweet taste . As you can imagine I didn't taste much... could this mean a new radiator water pump etc ( would it be worth replacing anyway with not knowing if it's been replaced in the past ?) or could it be less serious like hoses ... thank you all Dave

I would fill it back to level with water Dave, then run it till the temp gauge comes up to normal position and using a bright torch watch for leaks. Be careful of the fan and belts though. It should become obvious where the leak is.

Tony.

Hi again, If the water pump is original I'd get it replaced anyway whatever the mileage. It's the age of it, the plastic in there and that of the thermostat go brittle with age. The belts and pulley are worth doing at the same time.
