MK2 Mazda MX5 with a BMW engine and drivetrain

Just came across this on Pistonheads, thought a few here might find it interesting:

haven’t read it all but it appears to have a M52B25TU engine, a turbo, BMW gearbox and diff, Z3 prop and even a bit of Audi on the drive shafts.

Definitely not a plug and play conversion, some serious hours and skill needed!

And some rust of course, would not be a UK MX5 if it didn’t have rust!

m could be best if both worlds - nice MX5 dynamics with BMW engine.

Odd! Nothing really wrong with the MX5 mechanically, rust is the problem. So why ruin the best driving/handling little sportscar? I certainly wouldn't want to swap the gear change of the MX5 to a BMW box. Better ways to give the MX5 more power, if the owner wants it.

If you're going to do that sort of stuff, try a bit harder. I've seen a couple of LS3 engined ones (on youtube, not in person) and then I found this.
It'll sound amazing, even if it flies off the road at every corner.
