I have a misfire on my z3 2.8 when warm. It gets to 2000 revs then starts missing, just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem, I've had the computer on and it says crank sensor but the guy at the local garage says it would have problems starting it it was the crank sensor, it starts first time runs lovely up to 2000 revs so I'm stumped any ideas please

If you are getting misfires, the DME will have misfire codes and tell you which cylinders are the problem.

Misfires have 2 lines of diagnosis:
  • Electrical
  • Fuel mixture
Electrical
  • Check and gab your spark plugs
  • Swap coils between good and bad cylinders and see if the fault follows
  • Inspect the harness for damage
  • Take the top off the DME and inspect the PC board for track damage and the MOSFETS for damage. The MOSFETS are the black cubes arranged around the outside of the PC Board.
