I am replacing both the mirror bases with

I have read that door cards have to come off. Is this true? I hate taking cards off as I have sealed membranes last time I had them off and do not really want to disturb them.
Also do you think the base gaskets will be required for this after market fix?

No need to take them off - remove the mirrror glass - behind there are some screws - remove the outer casing - that gives you access to the allen bolts that attach the base to the panel - all done from outside.

But in order to get the wiring through the mirror base wont the door card have to come off so that the wiring can be disconnected, removed from the current base and pulled through the new base?

Also I think that the base rubber gaskets are still needed.

You can remove the mirror cable by disconnecting it at the motor end behind the glass and leave it connected inside the door

If I remember correctly once you have the mirror off, you can pull the wire through the door, and you’ll find a joint in the wire which you can then disconnect the mirror.
