MIL light - could this be the cause?

My 2002 2.2 litre Sport has been getting the MIL light coming on regularly (the one that looks like a little engine). Each time the C110 reader has shown me Fuel Trim errors like this.

Having read on the forum various ideas about what could be the cause, one note said to check the intake air hoses. So armed with a small torch I had a good peer at the rubberware between the MAF meter and the throttle body and saw this.

Although I'm entirely new to these cars and engines, I reckon I've found the culprit - do you experts agree? I certainly hope so as the replacement part is only about £10. That would be a seriously good result.

More than likely. That's the best place to start either way. You may find it best to remove all the rubber parts (on the induction) to give them a good examination. They're likely to be all original and a known weak spot.

Agree with Tony and it looks like that hose needs to be changed regardless of whether it's the root cause. I'm no expert, but my understanding is fuel trim errors concern unmetered air and you have a perished hose there so the shoe certainly fits. Hope you get it sorted for the sake of a tenner:thumbsup:
