I've always enjoyed a bit of tinkering , just not with cars... that's something I'm trying to rectify but I'm a complete amateur in that dept. In the past though when I had access to milling machines and a good lathe I used to make things like these.
Tattoo machines if your not familiar with them.
I would hand wind my own coils using an old and almost seized mini wheel hub to rotate the copper wire u der pressure for a nice tight wind. My coil centres and all washers apart from brass were turned on the lathe. I would also mold and cast the wingnuts etc.
The frames themselves I had to farm out, it's very difficult to melt your own iron as a hobbyist, the temps for that are crazy but I did try. Final milling and drilling etc was all done by myself, then a nice red hot dunk in an oil bath to colour the frame.
These were a real labour of love for me using only the finest materials, I don't think I'll ever part with these 3 tho I did sell hundreds.
Any other metal working hobbyists here? Show us your stuff.
