Mum asked me about the cloudy headlights on their 2009 X-Trail, so suggested she grabs a kit from Halfords and I’d have a go. An hour later, here’s some before and after pics.

Good results Gaz. Wouldn't have this problem if they'd left them alone and kept glass units.

Looks so much better Gaz. Bright headlights and shiny wheels make a car.

I did my Z3 with toothpaste, one with added bicarbonate of soda. It came from a pound shop
Any particular toothpaste will do, or do I need a specific ingredient like Hydorgen peroxide or baking soda?

.... and WTF is a pound shop? lol Sounds like another name for a whore house... lol

It needs to be one with bicarbonate of soda. If you search YouTube there are several videos showing it being used. I found it was quite good, possibly not as good as buying a specialist kit but then it's a tiny fraction of the price :)

I'll concede... I was not thinking that most of you guys are from across the pond. So, like a Dollar Store for us Yankees. Got it. LOL

Follow-up on the Baking Soda toothpaste. This stuff was great for getting the yellow out of the lenses, and while there was *some* clearing up, I fear my lenses need something more. There is a considerable amount of roughage of the lens itself, and I think that might be adding to the cloudyness.... if that makes any sense? I'll have to find a nice mild and dry day to take some fine-grit sandpaper to smooth them out. But thanks for the tip. the lenses are definitely no longer yellowed.

Earlier in the year I found some plastic polish in the garage that I used when I worked in Oman that I used for polishing epoxy domes when I was casting scorpions. It's called Greygate Plastic Polish, the bottle was given to me my a guy who worked in Sultan of Oman Air Force working on Hunters and Strikemasters, they used it for polishing canopies on the aircraft. The original bottle even has an RAF Section reference on it. I checked on eBay and it was still available from "musicalmachines". I ordered initially from another company "4volts" but it wasn't as advertised so I got a refund.

I used the polish to successfully get rid of the bloom that was affecting the headlight lens, I haven't got any before and after pics, but I was pleased with the result. I only used it for a short time (30 mins) hand polishing so I really need to have good go with it sometime with a buffing wheel. Worth a punt.

I use the autogylm kit. 23 quid, but enough sanding pads to easily do 2 sets of headlights, and at the end you can use the drill mop head that comes with it for buffing difficult to reach paint scratches. Done a set the other night on a Honda civic, can up quite good

I used this on the rear screen of my Z3 Pete, I would recommend it for sure.
