My friends mum wants an MX-5 so we drove 53 miles today to view one.

Now I knew the earlier models can suffer badly but assumed the later 2005 onwards models would be better.

We viewed a 2005 one done only 39,000 miles and it was rusty on the front wing, both rear arches starting to go, sills and underneath.

The rear jacking points I reckon would have needed welding very soon.

I'm still in dis belief that the dealer actually bought it.

The dealer possible Part Exed it on something else. I can't think that I've ever seen a rusty one, Surprised you found it in that state.

She would be much better off with my Z3. All MX5's end up rusting, beleive me!

Ex work mate of mine constantly battled the old tin worn on his 98 mx5. Always going in to the body shop after winter to be tarted up.

I've read about rust on these before is seems the original ones were bad and looked iffy with rust but the mark 2 up to 2005 ones seem to rust away inside and not show on the outside. The front chassis legs are really prone.

I was surprised too, in the advert on auto trader it says "low mileage and lovely"

And on the phone before i drove 53 miles I said "is it really lovely, because I'm a bit fussy" He said yes...

Don't you just love car dealers

That's twice the price that @t-tony was asking for his Z3, and she would be getting a car that's proper sorted, to us on here that's as good as a dealers warranty.
