I have an 06 Z4 with 62k on the clock so I would expect to have some chips on the front of a car this is not a problem but I've also found on the car 2 marks which seem to be under the lacquer there not scratches and not raised up it looks like little white marks underneath the lacquer has anybody got any ideas how I can remove them

Also the paintwork is a bit dull in some places and there are quite a few surface scratches I have a duel action polisher can anybody recommend the best thing for removing scratches

I will pm you with some products and pad types for the da tonight.

If the marks are under the clearcoat you won't be able to remove them.
But it's more likely that they are in the clearcoat and you should be able to machine them out.

Thanks knew you would be the man to talk to the car has no history of any insurance work and is still covered by BMW 10 year paint warranty

If the car is covered by a paint warranty, take it to a BMW dealer before you try and remove the marks, if you try and remove the marks and cause further damage BMW will likely try and wash their hands of the problem. Of course this is just my humble opinion ;).

Si,

That looks similar to the odd patch I have on my bonnet. If its the same it's under the lacquer for definite. The guy who came out to de-swirl and machine polish my Z3 some time ago couldn't do anything with it, except make it look more obvious.

Would agree with Brian that leaving it till BMW have had chance to look first is the best way. I'm sure they will be looking for any excuse to dodge out of a repair (well my local dealer would for sure!).

If the marks are below the clearcoat then you have only one option available to you.

I don't have to spell that out!

:(

The car is going in on saturday morning because of a problem with the cd player, think I will get someone to look at it then ,I'm not going to touch it ,had another look tonight can't see any signs that its been re sprayed at any point all still looks factory ,the marks are definitely under the clear coat there is 1 on the rear wing and 2 on the front wing all on the same side of the car
You really do have to look for them but i know its there

If there's white spots underneath the clear coat, it may be that the door has been resprayed, possibly at the factory? and the laquer coat has gone on both the front and back wings without them being properly prepared.

hi si in my view for what its worth .i would go with mikes idea.
looks like a respray job that has not been prepared right.
it looks like the paint layer has reacted with the substrate.maybe dirty surface before paint coat was sprayed on. its not been done with a two
pac paint maybe ???. can you feel the defect or has it been clearcoated do you think
si you know where I am if you want to pop over for the day for a bit of polishing therapy :D :D feel free
