Manual roof gas strut

lowering the roof recently the roof dropped a bit quickly, sort of slammed down. So I took the assist strut out & it was Knacked, check with dealer, then looked at suppliers. I found this one SGS Engineering solutions in Derby. Sent them my duff strut & got a replacement at about third less than dealer including VAT & delivery just over £29.00. Fitting no probs roof now much easier to drop & lift.
The part number is GS10-22-120-170 you will only need this if you remove the ball joint off the lower end & the sleeve & ball joint off the top. I had a new ball joint on the bottom, cheap laugh!! it's a B18.

the strut piston is a bit larger diameter but there is loads of room for it.

My car, October 96, did not come with a gas strut and to be honest, you don't need it.
 
Cant disagree HT, but after years of rugby any help getting the roof up is worth it, and the strut pre tensions the rear window a bit too.
 
That's good info Martin, thank you. My car has the power roof but I think that to start to lift a manual roof you would need some strength in your left arm, I'm not sure I could do it. Last night on the way home from work the sky was looking threatening so at a set of traffic lights I decided for the better part of valour I would put the roof up, much easier when all you have to do is press a switch. By the way, it was a good decision too!;);)

Its not that bad @t-tony its just a pain that you end up leaning up against the car to do it.
Scratches and all that, you have to be careful........
 
I was meaning putting it up while sitting in the drivers seat, like you do in an MX5!

I have done it Tony but Trinity's arms Are too short!! But it would be nice to just push a button. JIM
