M54 sticky throttle and poor throttle response

Hi,

I own both a 2.0L 2000 Z3 and a 1v 1.9 Z3. Having driven both, the throttle repsonse on the 1.9 is far superior than the 2.0L.

The 2.0L has a very sticky and stiff throttle and the responsiveness is generally very poor. It is that sticky that the car revs when releasing the accelerator when changing gears.

Does anyone know how this is fixed? I know that the 1.9 is fly by wire and the 2.0L isnt.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Andrew

My question exactly. See:

Sounds like the throttle cable on yours is sticking if the revs increase when the load is released.

2.0 is an M52TU with the cable throttle. The throttle body is a big lump that has the ASC (traction control) motor fitted to the side. The motor snaps the throttle closed as the ASC activates but the throttle pedals is unaffected. It's quite common for the steel throttle disc to wear a ridge in the alloy throttle body housing causing the disc to jam - the throttle pedal and quadrant will still move as normal but the engine just won't rev at all. It sounds like the throttle cable needs replacing on yours.
