After reading various posts regarding the retrofit of cruise control to the various models of Zeds I decided to give cruise control a go on my car.

My car is a 2002 M54 3.0i build date nov 2001 with a fly by wire throttle. As far as I am aware this guide is applicable to all fly by wire throttle Zeds.

Parts Ordered

  • 1 x Interface 65.71.8.380.054 - £40.88
    1 x Switch 61.31.8.360.926 - £55.95
    1 x Knob 61.31.1.390.968 - £5.94

    Total £123.32inc VAT

The cruise control switch/knob & Interface ready for connection to the car

After removal of the bottom steering column cover the picture shows the the cruise control switch installed and cable routed. The switch just pushes in to a pre defined slot.

The job took about 1hr to complete and all works as it should :D any question please ask.

Great post Brian I am going to have a crack at this

One question when you connect the interface to the accelerator is there a connection already there or do have have to disconnect a wire from the accelerator? If you could describe this it would be a great help

Cheers

Kevin,

There is no electrical connection between the cruise control interface and the accelerator connector, there is however a clip on both parts which allows them to mate together, this step is purely to stop the cruise control interface from hanging down.

Hope this makes sense.

Cheers

Brian

Thanks Brian

So the only wiring connection to the existing set up is the white connector block?

Correct, nice simple job.

Got it on my car, ex works, never use it..... :-??

I though hard before putting in on for this very reason however I do use it all the time, it is slightly different to my daily driver cruise control so can be a bit of a pain when trying to remember which way does what with the stalk control. All adds to the fun of driving though :)

I have a spare stalk for the steering column if anyone needs one let me know, £35

Fitted and working after a bit of a difficulty finding the white connector. It works perfectly - a very worthwhile mod. Many thanks for your help.

Glad you got it sorted :)

Hi Brian, will this retrofitting work on a 2001 2.2 (M54)? .. I am not sure if this model did catered for the cruise control. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum Kevin,

Yes it will work as long as you have a fly by wire throttle, @motco (and other members) has a 2.2i and retrofitted it to his car.

Good luck

Thanks Brian.

I'm going to check with my local workshop and hope to get this done in March.

Blessings

Hi from snow land, anyone done a 97? How about A/C for the same year. And, wiring up the hardtop defrost and 6 Cd changerJIM
