Zed has developed a low volume rattle when idling. Have had the `listening stick' out and noise appears to be from belt tensioner pulley (non a/c model). Not serious at the moment but need to get it done.

Has anybody replaced part 11281432104 and if so any recommendations please?

BMW part seems to be £80+.

INA (supposedly OEM quality but have never heard of them) are £38 to £40 from autosessive, CP4L, Europarts etc.

Cheaper versions on eBay - MAPCO (never heard of them either) ~ £30.

Inclined to go for INA but welcome other views.

My 2.8 had one recently and I got it from euro carparts. All is well so far and just done the euro cruise on it.

I replaced the ones on our 6 cylinder but different. If it is the pulley bearing why not just replace just the pulley might be a deflection pulley as well.

Thanks for response but not quite following what you mean Brian. The layout on the 4 pot is as per photo with a single tensioner. There is no noticeable play on actual pulley wheel but with engine running I can get a listening stick onto bearing and can hear an amplification of the distinctive noise.

@jonco sorry for any confusion I have only seen the 6 cyl and they have a fixed deflection/idler pulley in the system. Theer ar two belt as well the second drive the A/C and has it's own tensioner.

Ok - thanks understand your point now. I've never seen the 6 pot layout so didn't have a clue ( again - haha)

Short term fix is to remove the pulley and you can force some grease into the bearings. Probably one of the balls has slight pitting in it and the noise gets amplified.

To be honest Colin, if you're going to remove it to try to lubricate the bearing I would replace it while it's off. I changed the one on my Z3 last year and the difference was incredible.. It will only get worse, that's why we changed the "lot" while we had Grumpy's car in bits.

Tony.
