My M44 has an M steering wheel.

Looking at realoem the steering wheel page doesn't show anything.

Anyone know of a resource which lists the various steering wheels and what the differences are?

If I was looking at a wheel that didn't have the exact part number as mine but looked identical. What do I need to look at to decide if it'll fit?

For example will a 2228671.9 fit a pre facelift 1.9 M44

Thanks y'all :)

I use a different site for BMW spares - https://www.online-parts.co.uk/

I've checked and it lists the M steering wheel as fitted to my M Coupe, details below if it helps.

1 Leath.M sports strng whl black/black (32342229430)

BMW Genuine Part 32 34 2 229 430 Product 32-34-2-229-430 Manufacturer number 2 229 430 supply number 2-229-430

If you put your car details in and see what comes up.
Good luck

This link to a wheel on bay.

I'm not interested in this wheel at all. But I am currious about whether one wheel can really fit all these different cars. E36, m3, m5, z3 e31 e34 e39 e38

Are the wheels from all these cars interchangeable or is there a hub adapter?

Or what?

If another z3 wheel as long as single stage air bag same as yours then yes should fit .
But one off another model i would be less sure of the reason i say that us you hear a lot of people on hear complain the stock wheel too big
But you never really read on hear about people changing them and just bolting another on.
Thats why i think wouldn't be straight forward im sure someone will come along with a bit more information.
Stephen.

If I was offering my wheel for sale I'd describe it as coming off a 99 M44 PreFaceLift and leave it up to the buyer to decide if it'll fit his car.

But looking at ebay many people selling a wheel list a whole range of different models that they claim their wheel will fit.

The reason I ask is that I have my eye on a restored e39 wheel that's been hand rebuilt with wood. It's a 99 5 series. Seller swears it will fit a 99 pre facelift, single stage, z3. It doesn't have slip ring or airbag or buttons. So I'd need my slipring, airbag and button blanks to fit. As well as fitting the steering shaft splines. Is this too much to ask?

I bet when spurs fan sells a z3 wheel he knows exactly what other models it will/won't fit.

Edit Update.

Well. Seller offered return if it doesn't fit. So decided to suck it and see.

Fits onto the steering column nice and snug. Slip ring and airbag fit. Only thing I haven't got done yet are the button blank plates. Haven't googled yet how to get them off the old wheel.

Wooden wheel not everyones cup of tea. Not mine either in a modern car but this is part of the interior for my 507-ish rebody.
