Took my zed for an mot ....passed with one advisory, both rear brake pipes slightly corroded. The tester said to wire brush them clean and grease them up so I'm quite happy and relieved :D
Yey  Result Steve.

Thanks Tony :)
I've got some cloth type cleaning strips that I use at work for cleaning copper tube, that should do the job.

Apply plenty of grease. Did you know that a tester is not allowed to removed it to inspect the pipes. They can however ask the presenter of the car to do so, never known it happen though!

Tony.

Grease best applied with a long bristled 1" paint brush.

I prefer a pass to a list for sure :)
The mot signifies 12 months ownership of my zed already and it seems to have flown past

What's the best type of grease to use ?
I've got high melting point grease and silicon grease.

I would use multi purpose HMP, the stuff you have will probably say multi purpose on it. The sort of grease you would use to lubricate wheel bearings.

Tony.

Result - A pass is a pass.
My LR came back with a long list of advisories January last year. 4 items were front NS and OS pads and discs worn with a lip. A few days later the dealer said both were absolutely fine for well more than the next service interval. Who do you believe? I'd expect the dealer to snatch the opportunity of £300-£400 of work if it was in anyway needed. Anyways - its in next week. Told them to just do both discs and pads.

Dealer? I hear you ask. I took out a maintenance contract - I get the labour at 1997 rates and parts discounted.

Great result Steve. I had the same advisory on mine a couple of years ago. I got under and gave them a light brushing then applied the grease. Been fine ever since.;)

How do you find out when they not fine? No brakes or is it gradual deterioration?

I had this too but and they replaced the lines for very little, I think an hours labour and some pipe.

A pipe bursts = no pressure = no stopping power. You do get a small amount of braking from the circuit that's not leaking, up until there's no fluid left, and it doesn't take long.

I was very pleased when it passed....especially as I've renewed the insurance today also .
Not too bad though as when I challenged the renewal price they surprisingly reduced it by £50 :D
