If that fits the locks then i imagine a lock smith is your best bet.
If you find one that deals with cars he will be able to re cut the blade and then i believe take the transponder info from thr Ews module and program you a new chip for the immobiliser.

You can programme the key your self.
I purchased my second remote key from BMW dealer. You will need to take vehicle documents and ID before placing your order

Bought our spare key from dealer ,[Halliwell Jones Llandudno Jnt) and stores staff came out and programmed it in , no additional charge.
Our handbook 2.2 litre does include instruction for programming.

Does anyone know how to do a key for a 97z3 1.9?? There are blank keys on eBay cheaper then I guess it has to be cut and programmed. I was told programming would take up to 24 hrs. And cost $450!! I don't have a remote key just one with a built in flashlight! JIM

Thanks Mike, then what would the locksmith be saying about needing to program the key for it to work! I'' totally confused with this so if you can explain it to me I'd greatly appreciate it. I guard my only key with my life and I''m so afraid I'll lose it so I want to get another just for insurance!! JIM

Ask at BMW might be not so expensive.

These may well not be as complicated as my last Alhambra.

But that had a two stage hook up to the car. 1 programming to give identity (dealer - expensive) and 2 synchronisation so key can talk to car (DIY).

Just saying in case the 30 sec procedure is the synch part with the programming having been done unknown previously.

The tech could be very different on an older key though. And may also vary across Z3 key types.

the 3 things you need is key blade cut to operate locks module inside inside key to operate locks ( you can program this yourself no prob see u tube ) the killer is the transponder also inside the key a tiny nondescript looking chip of plastic with out this programmed to your specific veh.it will not start ... go to the dealer pay up & look happy i think this is the only way ...if you know a better way please advise.

An auto electrician can do this they can read the chip in an existing key and programme a black eprom chip for the immobiliser.
They then remove the EWS module remove any lost keys from it and add the new one.
I was still quoted just over £100 but this resolving the issue on my drive programming, cutting and supplying the key.

Hey Jimbo, I have still got one from my knackered old 96 Z.
You can have it if you like, just don't know if you could get it re-cut to fit your Z?
Thanks Mike, could you please post it to me? I'll PM my address. Worth a shot anyways!! JIM
