It's only 2 weeks to the winter solstice, then the days will start drawing out again. Roll on SummerYou're not kidding, these ultra short dark days do my head in, I hate this time of year it's so depressing to me.
Tony.
I like an optimist Dave. Thank you for making me smile mate. It's only 2 weeks to the winter solstice, then the days will start drawing out again. Roll on Summer
Only because you live in the middle of no where, not so bad in the center of town, Christmas lights up and all that, just wish it would stop bloody raining...You're not kidding, these ultra short dark days do my head in, I hate this time of year it's so depressing to me.
Just don't understand how the flooding happens in the UK? We are 6 Mtrs under sea level over here. Can't really complain after seeing what's happened up Andy M way
Thanks Tony. We're lucky where we are (if my house floods you'll need a boat). Many others though are in a bad way, againNot just that Mike, I work in town but it's dark when I leave home and dark when I get home so I don't see much daylight working indoors, let alone sunshine, what ever that is! Been bloody wet in town today, which makes my job even nicer . not!
Can't really complain after seeing what's happened up @Andy McDonnell way, hope none of your family been badly affected mate.

That's good Andy, happy to hear you are all ok mate. Thanks Tony. We're lucky where we are (if my house floods you'll need a boat). Many others though are in a bad way, again
Poor flood management Mike and poor planning. There's a new top end housing estate in Cockermouth that's being built ........ currently under water. It's not just the flood defenses (these worked well contrary to TV reports) it's the flood management to take excess rain out to flood plains and the sea that is poor.Just don't understand how the flooding happens in the UK? We are 6 Mtrs under sea level over here.
It's been raining every day for at least 4 weeks up here Tony, this was the icing, cherry and umbrella on the cake.Me neither Mike, but it seems the more flood defences they install the worse the flooding becomes. You can't coral water in and the more you squeeze it the more power it attains, basic physics, but 13" of rain in one day, jeeze how do you prepare for that?
Tony.
13" rain in 24 hours falling onto a relatively small area, running down into lakes with just one small outflow and nowhere else to go is not a happy combination. Pile on top of that decades of missed maintenance of rivers and the like with consequential lost knowledge local, building on flood plains removing the opportunity for flood water to go where it won't cause damage, then flood containment that simply shifts the problems somewhere else. We don't do water well!Just don't understand how the flooding happens in the UK? We are 6 Mtrs under sea level over here.
I was down in Twickenham last year - there were massive works going on along the riverside. The river was still over-topping the banks at the gardens just down the road though.Agree Ian, but the toffs got a taste not that long ago from the Thames at the same time as the Somerset levels. I wonder how much was spent down near the Thames?
Tony.
