As you're all so helpful , I only have one key. Took it to a local locksmith and they said they couldn't copy it because the code the key sends changes every time so I have to go back to a main Beemer dealer.
This true ?

You need to find a locksmith that has the BMW program but someone a few days ago said they programmed their own key due to only having one key. I asked how he did it but haven't received any answer yet! My locksmith has the program but wants as much as BMW and he is the one that does their keys for them. Still in negotiation to get the price down! Good luck! JIM

It's easy to program yourself you get an instruction sheet with the new key from BMW , I can post it if needed

Could you please PM me the instructions for programming as it's $450 at the dealer or locksmith!! I''m sure I can get the key a lot cheaper and program it myself. I was led to believe it would take 20-24 hours for the locksmith to program it! Did it take you anywhere near that long? JIM

Thanks @ Slam but I have a 97 z3 and suspect that my key is different as I don't have remote features. So it's back to the locksmith I guess unless anyone else has a better idea!! JIM

Hi @DaveB with a Z3, belated :welcome: to the forum from me too in Staffordshire. I agree with all the above, the windows don't move on my Zed 3, but they did on the Z4 I had.
