Lockdown Positives.

Just think about how much hotel, beer and petrol money we'll all have saved, we could do a full UK tour and still be no worse off. Result.
So, our office shut mid March last year. Using a "working days since" website I should have made around 220 x 75 mile round trips to the office (that number takes in to account public holidays as well).

That works out at 16,500 miles not driven, the TT averages (conservatively) 55MPG so that's around 1,365 litres of diesel I haven't burned just on my commute. Not sure what the average price of diesel over that time, but you get the idea.

I don't drink, so I haven't offset the diesel savings there at least!

Circa 5 round trips to Moscow and back, 1609 miles from Newbury as the crow flies

Actually enjoying working from home.
Mrs R and I still get on even working in rooms next to each other
Lots of odd jobs done
Money saved
Pool shut so have new exercise routine including daily yoga which I can’t believe how good for you it is.
Only had a 10 min commute previously but have returned the 335d and bought a 2012 Octavia estate - so saving a fortune there.
Cooking much more proper meals

Bad Points
Eyesight definitely deteriorated but have changed monitors now.
Had this happened 7 years ago when we had 3 boys in secondary school & at home, I think I would be round the bend by now.

Has made me yearn for retirement (7 years & counting).

Our cats have put on weight since me and the Mrs have been working from home, a positive for them at least, no choice really its a case of "feed us or we wreck your Zoom meeting!".

Not much time off for me in between contracts but when at home there has been lots of decorating done just the kitchen left to paint, so lots of brownies in the bank none redeemable no doubt.

I managed to replace the roof on the wood store, as that was in a right sorry state and the shed roof to do next.

Over the last few days I have been able to refurbish the rear Koni sport shocks, just the fronts to do.

Also have had some quality time with the wife enjoying some walks out fortunately live out in the country side and count ourselves lucky in this respect, enjoying boxsets and films with the wood burner on quite relaxing.

Looking at full time jobs and the disability assessor roles working at home are looking attractive but not sure if I can nurse a desk yet.

Positves?
banned from having to visit @g8jka.

=))

The only positives you get from not having to visit me is I can't give you any jobs to do.

And the best thing about you not being able to visit is you can't come and collect all them tools I've stolen from you.

I got a couple of big jobs done whilst on furlough last year like recolouring the whole interior of the zed. Plus we built a garage for it and got the back garden redone at the same time. Been back to work full time since the end of August though but still finding jobs to do around the house. Could do with a rest at some point 😴

Can only think of one positive and that it’s allowed me to get into videography but the downside is there has been no chance to get out and do any. It has been a bad year in every other respect but with the exception that all but one of the family has made it this far. There are currently no other redeeming features.
Even if I had still been working it was all but home based and I miss the odd day in the office. Nearly all meetings had been video conferencing for years before. We already had the benefits that so many have now discovered.
Many of these changes will endure. My son has been into his office just once in twelve months. They do not intend dragging everyone back in again every day when this is all over. They have downsized 75% of their office space. Like many he is many thousands better off both in monetary and travel time. Within hours of the current lockdown his firm told all employees with school children that they were expected to work only what they could. They said families come first knowing that their understanding and generosity will be paid back. Shame there are so few visionary organisations out there.
