Last sunny day before 7 days of rain so off up the Peaks!! Most of the usual hotspots were rammed so avoided them, a cruise around the secluded areas with the usual thermos and butties. Wall to wall sunshine, birds twittering, distant sound of mowers at work etc, sheer summer bliss.

Finished up at Buxton where I used to work at University of Derby, had a good look around and pleased to see they have done something with the disused Crescent buildings which I guess are now swanky flats, sorry apartments!

The Palace Gardens, as nice as usual, were enjoying their summer swansong with visitors basking in the lovely 23 degree warmth and not overly busy.

A very English way of life with a hint of Autumn making it's presence known. In all, a 'Jolly Nice Day Out - Take Two' !

Not flats Adrian, it's been completely renovated as a new luxury hotel and spa. Really it's back to it's original use!Good to see it renovated rather than years falling into decay. Looks like you had a smashing day out - sun always helps!

Looks lovely - please let me in on some of the secluded locations as I'm always looking to get out there for a run round

Never understood how such an elegant, guess Georgian building, was left to decay like that. Buxton whilst it has it's problems is/was such an elegant spa town blessed with wonderful architecture such as the fabulous Opera House. Went there to see Roger Moore, such an intimate theatre with all the bygone features. You can still see the original chair to lower bathers into the spa waters in the nearby spa baths shopping area. The Dome just up the road, originally the Duke's stables, is open to the public which not many realise. It has the same sound qualities as the whispering gallery in St Pauls. The University spent a serious amount of money on it, I used to teach in the rooms upstairs. Not a bad little restaurant either.

Not flats Adrian, it's been completely renovated as a new luxury hotel and spa.

Great idea.

I am constantly using a loop that runs out towards Chatsworth from Owler Bar then off through Curbar and Peak Forest to Sparrowpit. Then from Sparrowpit I nip across to Castleton and either go round Mam Tor through Edale or straight down Winnats Pass then back through Hathersage and off to Ringinglow and home through Whirlow.

The roads between Sparrowpit and Castleton and out of Hathersage past The Scotmans Pack to Ringinglow are my favourite but I've used it that many times I need to start trying something else.
