Hi all. Can anyone tell me if a Lotus/Caterham 7 kit is available for the Z3?
Asking for a friend.

Cheers.

Don't think so - does he just want to use the engine from the Z ? They don't use a donor chassis. Sigma or Duratec engines supplied via Caterham.
Top Gear built one in their office, there's a time lapse Vid on the Caterham site IIRC.

I think the only kit for the Z3 is the Kobra look alike grp shell which uses Z3 chassis ,running gear and doors. I used to have a Westfield kit car with a Ford xflow engine, great fun I managed to get the weight down to 420kg so it used to fly.

Locost, marlin, and some others do caterham look a likes with BMW running gear but most use the rear end from E39 or E36 which is different from Z3.

Oh no......dont let her change Reggie into a Caterham look-a-lke......... =))

He is looking at the MX5, he needs engine, gearbox, rear axle for the kit he's looking at but he needs to run it for 6 months before he starts chopping it up mate. I said I'd ask about the Zed as he's struggling to get the right car for a starting point.

This is as close as you’ll get Dave, built off a 3 series donor.

I would think one of these built with the BMW 4 cyl. M44 would make a real fun light weight car.

Tony.

Tony, the M44’s are only light weight up to the point before the owners actually sit in them :whistle:...... at least mine is:D:D:D:D:D

This is my bit of fun, it's a Locost.
I built it years ago, it has had various ford engines and gearboxes, it now has the ford racing puma 1700, I've got to say, it goes like a stabbed rat.

I'm not sure I would fancy a similar thing to this with a straight six BMW engine and box in it though, it would need beefing up all over to carry it.
You must remember Colin Chapman's mantra ' For speed, add lightness'.
