Key fob

Hi there
I have a 2001 Z3 3.0. I only have one key fob (pictured) with my car. I have the master and valet key, but only one fob. Is it possible to get a second fob from somewhere.. And what is involved for coding a new key fob. Thank you

Yes. You can have an E46 key that is still available and has the same functions as this one.

The auto locksmith I used was just a general auto one so I am sure you can find one in your area.

I didn't need to do any before prep and he did it all same day, very good indeed, highly recommend if you are in Oxfordshire

You will need a locksmith if you need a second key as the new blade will need to be cut and coded.

The electronics has 2 parts the remote part that opens the doors and the transponder chip that allows the car to start this is the coded bit
I have 2 keys one nice and one with buttons worn

I bought a new shell with a blank blade got the local keys cutter to copy the blade ( which is part of shell) swapped the innards over
So now have 3 keys that fit the locks but only 2 that operate the doors remotely or start the car.
