Hi guys,

I currently have a bit of a stash of various K&N Apollo induction kits (all brand new) and running short of space to store them.

This is what I've been using on my '98 Z3 M52B28 with great success. It flows plenty of cold air ducted from under the passenger side headlight, and is a fully closed system, so no chance of any heat soak issues and as much power as you will make from an induction system.

Makes a nice induction noise, non-invasive and not particularly loud, but very sporty from both inside and outside the cabin.

To fit on a M52 you just need a specific hose shortened to size, a few clips, a support bracket and a vent plug and it's a straight forward swap for the standard airbox. Takes under 5 mins to fit.

Should be easily adapted to the other Z3 engines too, although the normally aspirated air flow rate probably isn't high enough to get the best performance out of an S50/S54.
An S54 would also require a standalone MAF holder!

Anyway, if anyone would be interested, I can direct you to the exact parts I used to fit to an M52, or alternatively I'd be happy to assemble a kit (at cost) in advance.

I currently have some of them listed on ebay under their official part numbers, and for just under the next cheapest available at £289 (with Best Offer), but happy to sell on here for £150 delivered within UK.

Anyway, shout if interested or if you want any further details.

Quick update.

I few people had asked if my K&N setup fits the other engines, so today I fitted it to a 2.0 (M52TUB20) without any issue. Just needed one extra cable tie...

The same should be the case for the late 2.8 (M52TUB28) & 2.2 (M54B22)

The 3.0 requires a different 3.5" (90mm) intake hose to what i've used here but otherwise the same again...

For the vent plug, what did you use? What size? I'm looking at an alloy blanking plug but worried 42mm isn't big enough? Thanks

If interested, I've actually put together a few kits for £180 (currently have it at £199 on ebay also) with the correct intake hose, clips, mounting bracket, the K&N filter and lightweight plastic vent plug.

As for the plug size, I'm not sure on the exact spec i used, but it's an M14 thread and shouldn't be longer than 10mm.

I meant the plastic vent plug you used, what was the internal diameter? I'm trying to work out what to use. Pulling together my own induction kit, but needed advice

The M14 thread means 14mm diameter and if plastic, it'll sit nice and snug to avoid any air leaks.

Oh right, my caliper tool hinted at the internal diameter being 45mm, but with it being rubber, wasn't sure if there was 'play' room

The measurement shown is in inches but converts to roughly 45mm for the vent. 14mm would never do

I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing here.
The vent plug I had been referring to fits directly to the K&N airbox and it's plastic to plastic.

That bit you're measuring should be left intact, as per OEM. My kit fits in front of the MAF only.

I've used this kit first hand on the M52B28, M52TUB20, M52TUB28 and M54B30.
None of those had that part, but I'm not sure there's any actual need to remove it on your M54B22.

Alternatively, if you still want to remove it, rather than plug the hole, perhaps you could use an intake boot off another model to delete the outlet for it?

It appears to be off of a E39 5 series?? God knows how it got on my Z3? Shouldn't even be there! One more challenge to face.
