Thought I had covered everything in preparation for road trip to South of France tomorrow. Full service, MOT , error code checks etc etc. even fitted a new battery.
Wife nipped into town last night and came back saying there had been a `tremendous grinding noise' from rear of car but this had then stopped. I had a drive around and nothing obviously wrong. Jacked rear end up, wheels off - nothing amiss. Went to bed thinking it was probably a stone, as we driven over a re-laid road the day before.
Woke up today with that niggling feeling I had to get it checked. Rang my indy and he fitted me in at short notice.
Drove car there ~8miles. No problem until I turned into road next to garage when all hell let loose - thought someone had a grinder in the boot.
Car up on ramp - wheels and drums off. Found brake shoe flopping about in driver's side rear drum The head in the spring loaded securing pin had corroded and popped out. Phew!:nailbiting: Close call - hope my luck continues for the next 2000miles and 2 weeks.

:ymdevil:Apologies for any grammatical errors. ;)

Have a great time.:)

Cheers Tony - thanks. Have not forgotten that info on auto selector - have got a problem at the moment downloading pics from my camera. Basically part of the position slider was missing - can't find it anywhere but also cannot see how it worked previously without it.

Don't nip over the border to Spain.

They will be in mourning after tonight!

Have a great trip jonco, you'll be ok now

Glad you got it sorted, have a fantastic trip.

A pet hate of mine is the handbrake shoes pins

Thanks Brian - It was actually a combination of corrosion of the pin head and the back plate. We fitted a modified `Vauxhall' pin which has a larger head ( no comments BMG;)) and compensated for plate corrosion.

Well jell, love the start of an adventure ,don't be afraid to take pictures, my favorite is from the rear looking down the curved side,.......ooeerr

Good effort, but must try harder! Stay behind and see me after class.
