Hello chaps.

I fitted an OEM business radio cassette player to my 2001 Z3 this evening. It all went really well and the radio works fine. However, I put a cassette in and the system jammed up. I can't get the cassette out. The eject button does not work and the unit shows 'error' when the cassette function is selected. The radio still works.

Any ideas how to get the cassette out safely or how to get the cassette working again?

Cheers.

Andy

You're going to have to remove the Radio from the car and take it's top off. The Cassette mechanism is mechanical and driven by a small electric motor. You can manually play with it and get it to release.

Not that it helps, but I a remember that those head units were prone to jamming even when new. We had a few E36’s in the family in the late 90’s and both cars had that happen. I test drove a Z3 with an original head unit a few months ago and when I turned the radio on to see if it worked, I heard the same funny clicking noise of a broken one I remembered from 1998. I’m not surprised it jammed, it’s probably not had a tape in it for the last 20 years. Hopefully you’re able to sort it because I really like the look of the original vs some modern equivalents.
