As most of you know, I had my '96 1.9L Z 3 up for sale. A guy offered me $3500. for it and I accepted. He told me he'd pick it up on Saturday. He never showed up. I had met him before and he looked over the car and drove it. I can understand if you change your mind, its ok. But he never even called me to cancel. No manners. So I was going to put a sign on it and put it up the corner where I had sold other cars before. On the way up there, the clutch fails. I can't shift if into gear. I was able to turn it off, put it into first, and drive it home in first gear, less that a mile. I don't know if it just needs an adjustment or its shot. Are these clutches adjustable? Or is the clutch plate so worn, it can't press hard enough against the pressure plate? I thing it's a dual mass clutch. The last time I drove it, the clutch worked well with no slipping. In my past experience, when the clutch plate was getting too worn, the car would start slipping in the highest gear, ie. 5th, then in 4th and soon it was completely gone. This did not happen. I was wondering if something else failed such as the throw out bearing. There is no noise as if something is broken when shifting. I'll have to get out the Bentley's manual and start researching it. Any thoughts from you guys?..........................?Frankie

Sounds to me like a cylinder failure and first one to check for me is the slave cylinder. Also is there any evidence of clutch/brake fluid running down the clutch pedal in the car Frankie?

Tony.

Sounds like a master clutch or slave cylinder problem! Good luck! And yes that was pretty rude of the guy not to call. How close is your vin to the start of the run?? JIM

I think the problem is that the Zed don't want to leave you!
The M44 is very faithful...
