After only 4 months and 4000 miles since new discs and pads were fitted my brake shudder is back with a vengeance. Took it back to the fittter who told me the discs were warped again.
When they were fitted I was told they were guaranteed for 25 months or 25000 miles so hopefully will be replaced at no cost. Still bloody annoying though!

Depends how well the discs were fitted, most places whip the old discs off and bang the new straight on with half a pound of copaslip! The correct way is to clean the hub mounting face so the discs sit squarely on the hub. Use a DTI gauge if necessary to make sure. A lot of warranty claims are down to poor fitment technique.

Thanks for the info. I will (tactfully ) mention cleaning the hub mounting.

Just a thought are you certain the rear brakes are working efficiently?? If they aren't it would put the fronts under more pressure

They are checking the rears as well on Monday. Thanks for the heads up though.

Even cheaper end discs should not show problems at that mileage. I suspect you have calliper problems, most likely the sliders have corrosion behind the rubber slide sleeves. Commonly overlooked when discs and pads are changed. Some "technicians" earn bonus for changing things like discs and pads in quick time, which s not compatible with proper repairs in my book.

Wouldn't want to tar them all with the same brush, but heard one too many stories of people (often but not always women) who have been to the poorly-spelled places for a puncture repair or similar and got told they needed new tyres/brakes/dampers/etc. Hundreds of pounds for stuff that didn't need doing.

Just got the car back. Problem was down to bad fitting! Lots of apologies and all done at no cost.
To be fair I have always had good service from them before and the owner (who did not carry out the first fitting himself) was really embarrassed and came clean straight away. Let us just say that the mechanic in question no longer works there as I got the impression this was not the first issue with his work. He also checked the callipers and the rear brakes for me.
......Stops much better now!
