Just a couple of months ago I became a first time owner of a tasty looking 1999 2.8. I’ve done quite a lot to it cosmetically & mechanically (wheels, discs & pads all round, brake pipes, viscous fan, mass sensor, door locks....) thank you for the support & advice from this forum.

Well today I couldn’t resist another 1999 2.8, higher spec, lower mileage, AC, double skin roof, hard top, full cover, tonneau, wind deflector, even the original cloth for the rear window.

I’ve got to stop watching the for sale ads.

I just use good old fashioned soap & water and bathroom cleaner on the real dirty bits.... carefully. There are lots of products you could spend a small fortune on though, I'm sure @andyglym has a cupboard full=))

That’s my first job today, any tips?
My preference, spray Autoglym Machine/engine cleaner all over the engine bay, liberally, agitate with a soft brush and rinse with a low flow hose. Spray Autoglym Vinyle cleaner liberally all over the engine bay, shut bonnet and leave for a couple of hours (wash car or whatever). Pop bonnet and buff up. Plenty of products out there including Cif.

You keep going Si... enjoy it too.

As for engine cleaner.. try gunk first in a cheap spray bottle. Then when that’s done it’s work.. use a hot water and a small amount more of gunk with a stiff paint brush to loosen the remaining dirt. Wash down with some hot soapy water. Dry off and then spray the rubber with some Autoglym shinny shinny.. @andyglym will tell you which is best. :poke:

Have fun.

Nice car that, also a twin vanos. That will feel a lot torqier in the lower revs.

Ciff bathroon cleaner is bloody amazing for your engine bay, its a mousse, spray it on, leave it and agitate with a brush, then wash off, the results are staggering
