Is this worth saving?

Seems a simple repair, nice spec car, but slightly high miles and cat C it's never going to be worth much?

Folks, I don't understand how comes that 2nd hand cars come in UK so cheap...it's true it has a fairly high mileage, but aside from the damage it looks mint, plus is a pre-restyling widebody 2.8.
In Europe at that price you can buy the Styling 18 wheels and a little more...

...I'd save it.

EDIT: I crashed my former 1.9 years ago in a similar fashion, and the total bill was around 800€...

mileage isnt so important anymore (hasnt been for years, as we have gotten quite good at making cars) so long as it has been well maintained, seems like a cheap zed to me, if i lived nearer i would have a go at saving it. (remove the power part of the hood and recover £150, this pays for the repair in it self, then check to see if it has hard top mounts, theirs another £300 knocked off if you sell them.

slam panel is smashed, lot more work than just bonnet etc.

as a cat C i wouldnt bother, its a breaker at best for me

Thats a piece of cake to repair, I looked at it last night and thought right, I'm going to bite the bullet and have it, then I realised it is in bloody Devon, I could have it looking mint for £100 and a few hours labour, the slam panel is a doddle, have to say the mileage put me of a bit, If it was lower I would travel for it

Was looking for them, kept the car for a year as I was looking for them but could not find any over here, only in the UK and transport problems knocked that on the head. Was thinking of going for a fiberglass bonnet from a Belgium member @Stormy_be who makes some bloody good body parts, sills etc, but got offered the money and took it, as the car was rotting away, soft top etc.

I've exchanged various emails with the seller. I was interested myself and then did a report on the car and found out it was Cat C. He updated the listing after I advised him.

To my mind it's a breaker for economic reasons. It will never be worth much as a repaired Cat C with 160k miles.

It is a simple repair and a cheap one at that if you have the parts in the right colour or know where to get them cheap. But if you start needing paint, then unless you know a man, it will start becoming un-viable. And you're always going to need a van to pick up a second-hand bonnet so there's £50-£100 there. I don't really see the benefit of putting all the effort in when you can have a car ready to go for a similar total outlay.

Personally I think there are better projects around. Yes, it seems a shame to break it but where does everyone think you get nice second-hand parts from for your cars unless cars like this bite the bullet

I think your properly right, I'd love to do it but as I was reminded today "I already have one and other projects on the go plus where you going to put it?" Sometimes she can be soo sensible!

Im afraid im going to agree with a couple of others unless you could fix really cheap better as a breaker. 2 biggies against are the 160k and cat c will peg back value more in breaking in my eyes im afraid

For someone that is in my position its a no brainer to get in a 2.8, I could repair it for peanuts, its just the mileage that puts me off.

that sort of mileage should be easy for that era of bmw, about 8000miles a year, it is a tempting car, maybe not to make money on but as something to enjoy for what it offers

I wouldn't shy away dependent upon history of course. I'm sure there are plenty if quarter million milers cruising the world and that 2.8 is pretty solid and should give many more years of service. With your talents it would be a no brainer if it was me, JIM
