I know some of you guys have done replacements and I was wondering how this pack / price holds up?

Also metal or composite impellers?

Your opinions would be welcome
Niall

That's listed as the S52 engine so you would need to check compatibility. Metal impellers are ideal, but speaking to the parts manager at GSF a while back he reckons the plastic ones are much improved over the early ones. The ones we've fitted recently in the ZedShed have been plastic - but then of course we will be reminding people to change them more regularly.

No mention of brand names either which may or may not put you off. Also any reason why US seller, as you will need shipping and possibly import duty on top? Be worth having a look at GSF and Eurocarparts.

Recently changed my impeller for a composite one as a precaution. When the garage took the original plastic one out it was in very good nik for 19 years of age and 77k miles.

Cheers Gaz I have been in touch and they have said S50 & S52 but may not fit the euro engines (??), not sure why, they need my VIN to be sure. The package just seemed reasonable £224.00 for everything and an easy shopping option (+shipping of course) yeh will definitely check prices here too I just haven't seen this sort of complete package from UK suppliers, keep looking though. There was 3 brand options one an OEM supplier just didn't capture on the snipet.

There's quite a difference in price between metal and composite Andy, in fact there's quite a varied price range for the pumps in general from £76 to just under £300  (I'd like to have it fitted for £300 o_O ) Would love to know what the differences are other than the impellers. Its quite a mine field as usual with Z3 parts.

It's a mahoosive market and the manufacturers of parts are well on the ball as they know the punter (us) love to spend our money on upgrades to out cars. Just my opinion but if all most of us do is drive as designed then paying well over the odds is wasted money. That said, we're all passionate about them and like to spend a bit when we have it. :)

Agree, I don't want to spend too much (certainly not more than I need to) but I'm never sure whether going the cheaper option and buying now is best or false economy or waiting and saving for the more expensive, I'd like to be sure I'm getting something better for the extra cash and the wait, if that makes sense.

I'd never go the cheap option, I'd only go OEM or similar as I'm a big believer that in general you get what you pay for.

I'm sure your right  still bugs the hell out of me though to see items seemly identical items next to each other with a huge price difference and I don't know why there's a difference.

Just to muddy the waters - metal impellor pumps are not fail safe either. Mine failed after 3-4yrs - I think it was the impellor working loose off the shaft so not spinning properly.

Can't remember the brand but it was not a cheap one. The failure wasn't catastrophic thought just temp gauge moving up at low revs, give it a bit of revs and gauge came down so knew what it was and luckily I was on the motorway so I could revs up and head straight for the garage.

Re identical parts and different prices. I've been inside packing places here the UK whose job it is to remove parts from the OEM manufacturer boxes and put them into the car makers box, a 'no name box' and the actual manufacturers box. All the same parts and very different prices. Best to go into a motor factors and see the actual parts side by side to see if they actually different or not.
