I know it's a big ask, but I want:

  • iPod integration
  • Bluetooth Calling
  • Bluetooth Audio
  • Keep the original Head Unit
  • Keep the H/K kit
I was looking at the headless Parrot MKi9000. I'm not a fan of the little Parrot screens (I had a Parrot CK3000 once, with it's dim, smudgy and loose display...), and I like the idea of the mini wireless iDrive-style controller thingy the 9000 has.

Anyone got experience of these items?

Might be worth having a look through this site - http://diceelectronics.com/media-bridge-info. Allows you to integrate some of those things directly in to the OEM head unit.

I think the best way to get all of those items would be to change the head unit though. There are some fairly sympathetic looking head units out these days that aren't all LED's and disco lighting.

You also get the advantage of improving the audio, as the standard head units are pretty poor sound wise.

Yeah, gone off the parrot unit, as the BT and iPod are driven by its own amp, not the car amps. May well end up doing the replacement HU thing eventually.

OK, been looking at the Clarion FZ502E, it's Stereo BT, iPod, USB and has a built in mic, so no messy wire routing, that will end up being ruined by wind noise anyway! So, this leaves me with getting the right harness adapter to convert BMW into ISO and use the H/K Amp. I have selected the "Autoleads PC9-405 BMW 3 5 Series Wiring Harness Adaptor Amplified ISO Lead", which looks spot on for an amplified system. If anyone can confirm or has done this before, I'd be interested, as both items are in my eBay basket with a total of £140. A real bargain IMHO. Just need some reassurance before I hit the buy button.

Thanks!
